The Ripon Millenary was a huge enterprise that took place on 26th, 27th and 28th of August 1886 to mark the granting of the Charter in 886. As part of the celebrations a three day elaborate pageant was staged telling Ripon's story from the 'Druidical Period' to the present; it progressed from Studley Hall to Fountains Abbey and culminated in a performance of a Robin Hood play. A 'Commemoration Medal' was struck and profits from the Festival were divided between the Ripon Dispensary and Jepson's Hospital for Orphan Boys in Ripon. This image is a copy of a drawing taken from the Ripon Millenary book, published 1892, showing the Mayor and Aldermen processing through the Market Place.
