Fishergate

Date: c1906

The image is looking towards the Market Square, and was taken at the time of the road widening in Fishergate. The Grapes Inn, later the Globe Inn, which stands out from the rest of the buildings was demolished in 1906. Eden's shop, on the right, later became Philip Hall's, which in 2017 is Wrens. James Hebden had his ironmonger's shop much altered during the street widening. P. Braithwaite & Son, Auctioneers, had premises next door, and Wyatt, the picture framer, moved here from the Old Market Place end of the Middle Street block. The gent in the bowler hat behind the handcart is a Mr Cartman.
