Market Place from Town Hall

Date: 1905

A busy Market Square just after the turn of the century. The photograph can be accurately dated as Rayners shop, on the north east side of the Square, still stands in the middle of Queen Street. There was a complete row of shops on what was known as Middle Street, but by 1905 they had all been demolished, leaving just Rayner's, which would also be demolished before the end of the year.
